As a result of a recent faculty restructure, The School of Human Movement, Recreation and Performance will now be referred to as The School of Sport and Exercise Science. The website will be updated in the near future to reflect this change.

The School of Sport and Exercise Science, formed in 1972, is one of Australia's leading educational providers of a wide range of short courses and undergraduate and postgraduate courses, from degree to doctoral level. Courses aim to produce qualified professionals with leadership, vocational and critical thinking competencies, and specific skills in the areas of:

  • Ageing, disability and recreation
  • Human movement
  • Physical education
  • Performance studies
  • Rehabilitation and exercise
  • Sport and recreation management (sport management, recreation management, outdoor recreation)
  • Sport business
  • Exercise and sport sciences (exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology)
  • Sport, society and culture (sport sociology, sport history, sport philosophy
  • Sport science (golf and tennis)

The School also offers double degrees in conjunction with the Faculty of Business and Law (Sport and Recreation Management and Marketing Management or Event Management) and in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts, Education and Human Development (Exercise Science/Human Movement and Psychology).
The School has developed comprehensive and sophisticated facilities in Australia, enabling it to provide a wide range of academic, professional, research and service programs and with the completion of the new Exercise Sport Science Precinct in 2010 with its world class facilities and equipment will see the School and Victoria University as an international leader in Exercise Science and Sport. Its research training program is one of the largest in Australia, covering a wide range of disciplines and methodologies. The School also contains an extensive collection of research units.

The School is truly international, with active student exchange agreements with such high profile institutions as Indiana University (USA), University of Western Ontario (Canada), Beijing University of Physical Education (China).
Courses are designed to facilitate students in applying the knowledge gained in class and field placements to their professional development. The School incorporates work-integrated learning, with exciting partnerships established with such organisations as the Playbox Theatre, Melbourne Tigers, Western Jets and the Western Bulldogs
Graduates have been successful in careers covering a variety of work opportunities, including government and private positions within Australia and overseas. The professional level at which graduates are employed ranges from program leaders, self-employed professionals and teachers, to middle management and Chief Executive Officers.

  • Division of Sport Management and Policy

The Centre for Ageing, Rehabilitation, Exercise and Sport (CARES) is one of the six designated University Research Centres at Victoria University.
