Sport and Science in action

We provide a range of training options - from Certificate to Diploma level - in Sport and Recreation and Sport Development for people wanting a career in coaching, officiating, or other levels in the industry.

Mid year intake information sessions

Information sessions are being held in May regarding the course Certificate IV in Fitness. All interested students are encouraged to attend.

Courses

We have many courses relating to development, coaching, and sport, community and outdoor recreation.

Fitness

Fitness courses are available, providing the skills to start a career as a personal trainer, gym instructor, or fitness centre and facility manager.

AFL Sports Ready

AFL Sports Ready is a traineeship developed by the AFL. It is dedicated to sourcing and facilitating meaningful employment and training for students - male and female in their final years of school hoping to get a foot in the door of the sports and sports related industries. The School of Sport and Science administers the study component.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo at VU

Taekwondo at VU

The Diploma of Sport (Coaching) with a stream in Taekwondo is a specialised program for International and local Taekwondo students who wish to develop their Taekwondo Coaching skills to the highest level. The program incorporates coaching, competition management, team management and the essential business skills to run a Taekwondo studio.

The current program takes students from the English Language Institute who have achieved a level 5.5 IELTS score or equivalent. The students undertake two years of study to receive the Diploma of Sport (Coaching) award and can then take a pathway into the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management.

The school of Sport and Science is working in partnership with DTU to develop and deliver international education and training in the discipline of Taekwondo.

Massage

Training in Massage

Training in Massage

The School of Sport and Science has introduced a new course starting in 2012, Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage (Myotherapy).

Training in Remedial Massage at VU will prepare you for a rewarding career in the health and wellbeing industry. Our courses blend theory with 'hands on' experience working with elite athletes from AFL team Western Bulldogs.

Students studying the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice work with the AFL team to provide sports massages for players while those studying the Diploma of Remedial Massage can apply for a Cadetship with the club. This opportunity will assist students when they graduate and launch their career as a Massage Therapist particularly in the area of employment with a sporting organisation or club.

Short course

Introduction to Massage. Learn the basic skills to give a relaxing back and leg massage for your friends and family. This course teaches you practical massage skills and can be undertaken before commencing the the Certificate course in Massage. For more information, call +61 3 9919 5580.

Animal Studies

Are you always asking why? Do you love working with animals? Discover a huge variety of science courses delivered through state-of-the art facilities, like our fantastic purpose-built Veterinary Nursing facility at Werribee. Courses are available in animal studies, animal technology and veterinary nursing.

Veterinary Nursing students

The VU Veterinary Clinic, located at our Werribee campus, offers discounted pet care to VU staff and students. Your pet will be attended to by a fully qualified vet assisted by VU veterinary nursing students under the supervision of a veterinary nurse.

RSPCA

RSPCA Victoria is offering an opportunity for students to gain a Certificate II in Animal Studies. The course has been developed to provide general training for people wanting to work in an animal care industry and for those wanting to improve their skills, knowledge and pursue further studies in this area.
