Research Focus
The School of Accounting and Finance is strongly committed to supporting research to solve practical problems.
We conduct regular research seminars that involve academics and postgraduate research students in discussions about their research projects, findings, and application.
We offer high quality research supervision, a collegial and supportive environment, and practical assistance to ensure postgraduate students are supported throughout their research journey.
Prospective PhD or Masters postgraduate research program students should ensure their proposed topic fits within the School’s four areas of research focus:
-
Accounting and Finance Education
Accounting Education research is undertaken within the School’s Financial Education and Research Unit (FERU). This research unit has operated since 2009 under the Directorship of Professor Beverley Jackling. The Unit has secured international and nationally competitive research grants, engaged in prestigious international conferences, and produced an extensive list of high quality publications in leading academic journals. Read more about FERU on the Business and Law Research page.
-
International Accounting
Academics in the School of Accounting and Finance have backgrounds in education, research and practice in over a dozen different countries and regions, including China, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Africa, the Middle East, Italy, Russia, Greece, Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran and Somalia. Professor Colin Clark leads a CPA Australia-funded project in China, and numerous other country-based research studies are being undertaken by staff, with a particular emphasis on the Asian region.
-
Governance and Accountability
Corporate governance refers to the framework of rules, relationships and systems to help public and private sector organisations monitor and assess risk, create value, and ensure accountability. This area of research also includes social and environmental sustainability.
-
Financial Services (including Banking, Finance and Financial Planning)
This emerging area of research builds on the growing demand for information and advice to plan for an adequate retirement income and lifestyle. The School has broadened its research into the areas of banking, superannuation, financial planning and financial literacy.
