"I enrolled in the Certificate II in Animal Studies because I wanted to find out what I need to do to get a career in the animal industry.

We did lots of different sessions with animal behaviourists, vet nurses, animal attendants and animal care professionals.  It was a great way to find out about the industry and to get some workplace experience.

The course was split in two parts. We did five days of training in the first part where we learned about animal rescue, animal behaviour and first aid. We also learnt about effective communication and Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace.

The second part of the course was a work placement. I worked in the RSPCA veterinary clinic, in the kennels, the cattery and the barn. I had lots of tasks like feeding the animals and handling them to make sure there was nothing wrong with them.

Learning in the workplace is so different to learning in the classroom.  The whole experience has changed me as a person. It’s given me a lot more confidence and really inspired me to work harder at school. I would definitely recommend the course to others – it’s a great experience."
