In a rapidly changing modern working environment, Victoria University graduate Benson Wong considers postgraduate studies essential.
To upgrade his knowledge and skills, Benson enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Victoria University.
“The decision to pursue postgraduate study came about as a result of considering what I really enjoyed doing - managing business,” says Benson. “VU’s MBA provided me with general business knowledge, built my confidence and facilitated networking activities. It has also taught me to be focused and to work towards my goals.”
Benson completed his entire MBA at Sunway College in Malaysia, which has partnered with Victoria University since 1987.
Upon graduating, Benson joined the consumer banking sector. As a retail banking branch manager, he was involved in designing and pioneering a new segmentation concept of retail banking which involved finance, retailing, events and customer loyalty.
Keen to maintain his contact with Victoria University, Benson founded the VU MBA club in Malaysia, initiating a lot of activities for corporate visits and social activities as well as CSR (corporate social responsibilities) with many charities.
To promote the need for life-long learning, Benson has now co-authored the first MBA DIARY and as well as another book called MBA EDGE.
For Benson, the best factor about his time at VU was the MBA itself.
“The business formulae that I learnt in class came just at the right time to solve business matters of my own and the course kept my brain thinking about business for the whole 18 months,” says Benson. “I also treasure the numerous new friends I made which also includes the lecturers.”
