FAQ about Victoria Place

You should read the frequently asked questions before you apply to live at Victoria Place.

Q.  Who can apply?

You need to be a VU student, or have been offered a place in a course at VU to apply to live in the Victoria Place. Accommodation is also available to students from other universities where a vacancy exists. 

Q.  How can I apply for accommodation at Victoria Place?

Complete an application form online or download a copy and pay the application fee. You must attach confirmation of your enrolment, two confidential reference forms and two passport size photos to your application.

Q. I have sent in my application, what happens next?

You will be notified once your application has been received and processed.

Q. What are the terms and conditions?

Victoria Place has rules and regulations that all residents must follow. Make sure you understand your obligations and ensure you comply with all the terms and conditions that apply to Victoria Place. 

Q.  Fees - How much does it cost?

The fees at Victoria Place vary depending on the unit or room in which you live.  Fees are set out in the schedule of fees and are paid monthly. The acceptance payment includes fees, a Student Club Levy, an Academic Development Levy and a Damages Default deposit.

Q. What additional expenses will I have to pay?

The fees at Victoria Place include the cost of gas. You need to organise your own connection and pay for electricity and water, as well as access to high speed Internet and phone if you want these services. Other additional costs include course materials, entertainment, medical and other personal expenses.

Q. What method of payment can I use?

Payments can be made with credit card, EFTPOS, cheque or cash. 

Q. What sort of accommodation is available?

Victoria Place is a four level facility containing 41 student apartments and two deluxe units with 3 bedrooms.  Each single apartment and deluxe unit is fully furnished with amenities. The cost of accommodation at Victoria Place depends on the level in which you live (see schedule of fees).

Q. What do I need to bring when I move in?

You need to bring your own computer, linen (bed sheets, doona, blankets, pillows, towels etc), clothes and toiletries.

You may also choose to bring other personal items such as an alarm clock, CD player, books and photos.

Q. How will I get to my university from Victoria Place?

Both Victoria Place residences are located on Ballarat Road, approximately 100 metres from each other, and a short walk from the Footscray Park campus. Victoria Place is close to both tram and bus services, and only a 10 minute walk to the train station, providing easy access to VU campuses in the centre of Melbourne, Sunshine and St Albans.

We also provide a free shuttle bus service in the evenings to some campuses.

Q. I am an International student, is there an Airport pickup?

Victoria Place does not offer an Airport pick up service.  This service may be organised through the Victoria University International Student Services. Please contact them directly.

Q.  What shops are near by?

You can walk to Footscray Central in 10 minutes or take a 5 minute tram ride to access a variety of shops including the Footscray market, supermarkets, chemists, clothing stores and a Post Office.  There are also restaurants, cafes, medical and community services located in Footscray. 

Alternatively you can take a 5 minute tram ride or bus ride to the Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong, which is one of the largest shopping centres in Melbourne.

You can also catch a train for a short trip to the Central Business District of Melbourne.

Q.  How do I organise my meals.

There are supermarkets and a market nearby to do your shopping.  You have full kitchen facilities in your unit to do your own cooking.  The Residence Life Team will organise communal meals from time to time.
