Expand your opportunities in renewable energy and gain an accreditation as a Solar Grid Connect Designer and Installer.

You will study the Electrotechnology National Training Package to become an Electrician trained to meet Clean Energy Council (CEC) standards.

Units of Study that students will gain competency in on satisfactory completion of this short course are:

  • K25C Solve basic problems in PV energy Apparatus
  • K35C Design Grid Connected Power Supply Systems
  • K48A Configure Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems

This course will cover the following areas:

  • Brief revision of basic Electrical concepts
  • OH&S (working at heights and working with DC)
  • Solar Radiation
  • Site & Solar Access evaluations
  • System component operation including PV panels and Inverters
  • System design (including calculations for matching panels with inverters, circuit protection / isolation, voltage drop and cable sizing)
  • System installation and connections at Array, Inverter and Switchboard*
  • Signage*
  • Monitoring/displays
  • Metering arrangements
  • Supply Authority / inspectors requirements
  • System Efficiencies and Losses
  • renewable energy certificates / solar credits
  • Commissioning*
  • Documentation
  • Routine maintenance and Trouble shooting
  • Australian Standards Requirements 3000, 4.777/1/2/3 & 5.033

*Both practical and theory components.

Entry requirements:

Must have an A Class Victorian Electrical Licence (or equivalent Licence from other states in Australia).

Solar Grid Connect runs in two modes:

  • Full Time - One Week Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 4.30pm

Admission Information

Completion of Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician) or Energy Safe Victoria approved applicants.
