Graduate Diploma in Exercise for Rehabilitation

Help people who want to exercise and are living with, or are at risk of, chronic disease, injuries or disabilities.

You will gain specific skills in areas such as cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation and be able to apply your knowledge and gain clinical experience in the field of preventative medicine and rehabilitation through the Victoria University Exercise Rehabilitation Clinic

This postgraduate diploma goes towards gaining accreditation with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).

Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Exercise Rehabilitation leads you to admission to the second and final year (full time) of the Master of Applied Science (Exercise Rehabilitation).

Course Objectives

The course aims to:

  • produce graduates with considerable knowledge and expertise in the application of exercise in the field of preventive medicine and rehabilitation;
  • equip graduates with specific skills and competencies in the areas of cardiovascular, metabolic, respiratory, musculo-skeletal and neurological rehabilitation, which will assist in gaining accreditation with the Australian Association of Exercise and Sport Science (AAESS);
  • provide graduates with extensive industry experience in the form of a 20 week internship; and
  • facilitate close and extended contact between students and potential employers.

Units and electives

Year 1, Semester 1

Year 1, Semester 2

Students may elect to take the unit Exercise for Rehabilitation Fieldwork part-time.

They would then enrol in:

Full time load equates to 4 units plus clinical placements or fieldwork each semester.

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Credits

Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Admission Information

  • Mature: An undergraduate degree in exercise science or human movement. Allied health graduates need to apply for AMCE.
  • Other: An undergraduate degree in exercise science or human movement. Allied health graduates need to apply for AMCE
