Graduates are qualified to work as a member of a team in a hairdressing salon, with responsibility for their own work and supervision of others, including apprentices.

Course Objectives

The course provides training for individuals wishing to work in the Hairdressing Industry as a Hairdresser.

Compulsory Elective Unit of Study

Complete 5 of the following units of competency

Note: WRHWP302A is a compulsory elective, in the group of five to be selected for learners who undertake this qualification via an institution pathway and not an apprenticeship

Apprentice: 3 years or Full-time, full fee: 2 years Mode of delivery for apprentices and Full-time includes - day release, block release and on-the-job training. To achieve a Certificate III in Hairdressing, 29 units must be completed comprising: 23 core units, plus 6 elective units, comprising 1 compulsory elective haircutting unit and 5 elective units.

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take, and optional 'elective' units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Admission Information

  • TAFE: Reading and writing - a learner will be able to read and comprehend a range of simple texts and write a range of short texts in a number of contexts which may be interrelated. Oral communication - a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language within a variety of contexts. Numeracy and mathematics - a learner will be able to deal easily with straightforward calculations either manually and/or using a calculator.

  2. Submit a TAFE Direct Entry Application form
  3. As part of the application you may need to complete extra requirements such as:
    • submit supplementary forms
    • attend an interview, audition, information session or workshop
    • submit a folio
    • sit a test

    Details about extra requirements are available from the Faculty of Technical and Trades Innovation.

    You need to complete all extra requirements by the given dates, otherwise your application may not be considered.
