VU Achievement Scholarships Fund

VU offers the highest number of Access and Equity scholarships of any Victorian university. We currently offer almost 500 scholarships based on equity, primarily assessed on the criteria of financial need.

In 2010 Victoria University introduced a new range of scholarships – VU Achievement Scholarships. These scholarships are offered to the young people of the western region based on their achievements while in Year 12. In our first year we were able to offer 66 students from 45 schools a scholarship. Our scholarship recipients have enrolled in all Faculties across the university.

Each year VU is providing a package of two scholarships for every secondary school in the western region of Melbourne, approximately 50 schools. One student enrolling in a vocational education course at VU and one student enrolling in an undergraduate degree at VU will receive a scholarship. The scholarships will be funded for the duration of the student’s course with higher education students receiving $5000 per year and vocational education students receiving $2000 per year.

The average cost of providing two scholarships per school is expected to be $20,000 per school a year. The cost of each scholarship package will vary from year to year and from school to school due to differing course lengths.

That means that the total amount to be raised each year to sustain the scholarships is approximately $1 million, or an endowment of $20 million to support the scholarships in perpetuity. Victoria University Foundation has made a commitment to support the scholarships and has agreed to raise the $1 million required each year.

The Foundation is asking individuals or organisations with the capacity to do so, to support the scholarships. Gifts of all sizes will be highly valued as a stepping stone to the overall target.

You can help a Year 12 student in Melbourne's western region begin their tertiary education by supporting the scholarships program. Please make an online donation today, or download and complete the VU Achievement Scholarships Fund donation form.

East Timor Scholarships Fund

VU is proud of its longstanding commitment to East Timor (Timor-Leste). In the early 1990s, before East Timor’s independence, VU supported the development of its most precious resource – its intellectual infrastructure.

For a time, the Timorese National Resistance Council was based at VU’s City Flinders Campus in Melbourne. Since that time VU has continued to support the people of East Timor. Increasingly, support has focused on maximising educational opportunities for East Timor students, particularly those who will make an immediate and significant contribution to the development of their newly independent nation.

The Victoria University Foundation has established the East Timor Scholarships Fund to enable selected Timor-Leste students to access education programs at Victoria University in Melbourne. Scholarship recipients receive approximately A$30,000 per annum for the duration of their course. The scholarship covers airfares, living and incidental expenses in Australia.

In order to sustain the East Timor Scholarships Fund we need your help. We need to raise further funds to guarantee the East Timor Scholarships Fund for the next five years.

Please help us contribute to the future of Timor-Leste by investing in the education of its people. Make an online donation today, or download and complete the East Timor Scholarships Fund donation form.

Australian Community Centre for Diabetes (ACCD)

ACCD brings together existing expertise in diabetes and connects research activities by working with key health, community and education partner organisations. It aims to develop new approaches to diabetes prevention and management, and to reduce diabetes-related disease in identified (or priority) communities where the rate of diabetes is high or increasing. Priority communities include:

  • socioeconomically disadvantaged
  • culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

You can help contribute to the future of diabetes prevention and management by making an online donation today, or by downloading and completing the ACCD donation form.

Other funding opportunities

The University’s current priority fundraising projects are outlined above; however, funding support for other smaller projects is also being explored.

These projects include Women's Wellness in the West (WWW), the VU Creative Arts Festival, the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) programs being offered by the University and the annual Science Experience offered through the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science.

You can help contribute to these and other projects as they transpire by making an online donation today, or by downloading and completing the donation form.

For more information on making a donation to these or any other projects, please contact the Development Office.
