Personal and professional development opportunities
We run a number of events throughout the year to help you develop personal and professional skills. These range from social evenings to career planning workshops and industry information nights. With experienced, qualified guest speakers and opportunities to network and establish new industry contacts, we help you maximise your learning potential.
Financial members receive special discounted rates.
Social events
All members receive invitations to alumni social functions including reunions, anniversaries and other celebrations.
These events allow you to meet other alumni in a relaxing and informal way. We let you know about these events through our alumni e-newsletter and on our events calendar.
Services for all members
Career advice in Melbourne
VU Alumni can access the free careers and employment service during the first two years after graduating and after that time can access the VU Community Gateway.
VU's Student Career Development Service provides a range of online and face-to-face career and employment services for current students and graduates who have completed their studies in the last two years.
Services include:
- one-on-one careers counselling around issues such as career planning and job seeking
- reviewing job applications
- conducting mock interviews
- access to an online jobs board

Services for financial members
Library access
You will have full borrowing and browsing access to the VU Library.
At the request of our members, financial members were given access to a range of selected e-database and journal services. This means you can research a selected range of resources online, no matter where you are.
Discounts for financial members
VU bookshops
Visit any VU bookshop and present your alumni membership card to receive a 7.5% discount on a wide range of items. The bookshop has course books for students, stationery, merchandise, newspapers and giftware.
The discount is not available on sale items.
VU health science teaching clinics
A range of reduced cost treatments are available to financial members. Treatments are performed by students undertaking their clinical practice in the relevant course.
These students have had appropriate classroom study and practice. All treatments are performed under the guidance and supervision of qualified, expert practitioners.

Short courses
Financial members are entitled to a 10% discount on most course registration fees.VU offers a number of short courses aimed at improving and developing your professional skills, as well as courses that meet your personal interests. Visit our short courses page to find out what's on offer.
Sport and fitness centres
Your financial membership entitles you to discounted monthly membership at VU fitness centres. Membership includes:
- Use of the weights room
- Group exercise classes
- Aquatic exercise classes
- Swimming pool and sauna (only available at Footscray Park campus)
We have fitness centres located at the Footscray Park, St Albans and Werribee campuses.
Hairdressing, beauty and massage services
You can receive low rates on a range of hairdressing, beauty and massage services at our City King campus.
The services available include:
- Hairdressing - cutting, styling and colouring, and fashion perms
- Beauty therapy - waxing and body treatments, manicures, pedicures and electrolysis
