Dr Rob Aughey

Lecturer, School of Sport and Exercise Science

Rob is a lecturer in sports physiology and also works as a sport scientist at the Western Bulldogs Football Club.

Rob is an authority on the physiology of Australian Rules football, is an experienced media commentator and has appeared in various print, radio and television outlets. He has been working with the Western Bulldogs Football Club for the past three years.

He undertakes research into all aspects of the physiology of Australian Football, including:

  • optimising warm-ups 
  • measuring physical performance in matches through the application of micro-technology  
  • the effect of heat on player performance 
  • enhanced recovery practices 
  • measuring fatigue after matches, and
  • interventions such as altitude or supplement use

Rob conducts annual fitness testing for AFL Victoria on all their elite U18 footballers competing in the TAC Cup. He has also undertaken laboratory fitness testing for other AFL clubs.

He is an active member of the AFL Sport Science Advisory Group. Rob also co-ordinates an annual football history essay competition
