Mr Ralph Kiel
University Librarian
Ralph Kiel joined Victoria University in August 2009 as University Librarian.
He has been involved with the education sector all his working life, starting in Victorian secondary schools and TAFE colleges before moving to University libraries in 1999.
In 1993 Ralph and his family spent a year Nanjing, China, where he taught English at the Jiangsu Institute of Education.
He then spent four years working at the RMIT Library, starting as Manager of the Business Library and progressing to Manager, Corporate Services. In this latter role he was responsible for a number of areas, including copying services, Library HR and finance. He was particularly interested in occupation, safety and health issues.
From 2002 to 2009, Ralph was Associate Librarian, Information Systems at the University of Western Australia. He was responsible for Library IT, Administration and Information Resources sections. While in this role, he took a keen interest in staff training and the professional development of library staff, particularly in the areas of leadership, project management and e-learning.
