Scholarships for PhD, DBA and Master by Research degrees are administered through the OPR. The OPR holds a wide range of information on scholarships available in Australia and overseas. Some scholarships provide stipends covering fees and a living allowance, while others provide only partial funding. Eligibility for some scholarships is limited to certain discipline areas, or to certain groups of people. Information about current schemes on offer is available through the OPR website. Contact the Postgraduate Scholarships Coordinator for application forms and details. Information on scholarships across Australia is also available on the Joint Academic Scholarships On-line Database (JASON).

The following University scholarships are offered each year to enable students to pursue higher degrees by research. Applications for the following awards close on the last working day in October of each year. The awards are normally provided for three years for Doctoral programs and two years for Masters degree programs. For applicants who are already enrolled in the degree for which they are seeking the scholarship, the period of enrolment already completed in the degree will be deducted from the duration of the scholarship. This includes prior enrolment in a Masters degree where a Masters enrolment has been converted to a  Doctoral entrolment.

Preference will be given to those research projects in areas of research identified for development in the University's Research Plan.

Applicants for the above awards will be notified of the outcome of the selection process by mid- December. Applicants who are unsuccessful by a narrow margin are placed on a reserve list. Scholarships that are declined in the first round of offers are offered to reserve list applicants in order of merit. This process is normally finalised by mid-February. Recipients must normally commence study by the end of March. Application for deferral may be made in special circumstances, however commencement may only be postponed until the end of June in the year of award.

Application forms and further information regarding the following scholarships are available from the Scholarships Coordinator, Office for Postgraduate Research, 14 Geelong Road, Footscray,  Ph. 99194659.
