    You are cordially invited by Professor Elaine Martin, Director of Graduate Research Studies and Associate Professor Michele Grossman, Associate Director, Office Postgraduate Research to this two-day program. This Induction is intended to: introduce new research students to each other, to Victoria University as a research institution and to the people who will be of most help to them in their time as a research student. We also offer an evening session for part-time research students, which gives a condensed version containing essential information.

  • 2008 Staff Parking Permit for Postgraduate Research Students

    If you find it difficult to obtain parking at VU, you may want to consider applying for a yellow staff parking permit. The permit will allow you to park in the staff car park (yellow permit area) at all campuses except the City campus. The permit will be valid until 4 July 2008.

    To apply for the permit, you must complete the permit application form and send it along with your supervisor's supporting email acknowledging all points made in your application to Natalie.Sciberras@vu.edu.au.

  • 2008 Victoria Fellowships Information Session

    The Victorian Government annually awards up to six Victoria Fellowships to emerging leaders in engineering, science or technology. Each Fellow receives a travel grant of up to $18,000 to undertake a short-term overseas study mission to assist in developing a commercial idea, or undertaking specialist training or career development.

  • Narrative Research - A Conversation with Prof Cathy Riessman
    organized by Office for Postgraduate Research and School of Communication, Culture and Languages


    When: 3.00 - 5.00pm on Wednesday 27 February 2008
    Where: Building L 202, Footscray Park

    Narrative research is reshaping qualitative inquiry in virtually every area of the human sciences. Despite the 'narrative turn', many researchers are cautious to adopt this method for fear of falling foul of rigorous scrutiny from social scientists at work in more established traditions.

    In this two hour conversation, Prof Cathy Riessman, from Boston College and known internationally as 'the mother' of narrative research, will explore validation and truth in narrative research and discuss what narrative research can and can't do and how it can be defended as a legitimate research method.

    Prof Riessman is currently visiting Victoria University and the Australian Narrative Network. Her latest book "Narrative Methods in the Human Sciences" will be launched at Readings bookshop at 6pm the same day.
