The Cultural Diversity research area is focused on research, community engagement, teaching and training with culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Within this ICEPA considers issues of identity, participation in society (such as schools, the education sector and the workplace) the migration experience, language and communication, and ties to the homeland. In considering these issues ICEPA recognises the diversity within these communities such as age and gender.
Refugees
ICEPA's work with Refugees is designed to enhance understanding about and assist the capacity of refugee communities to deal with the challenges of living in Australia, and to ensure the development of policies and practices that best facilitate the wellbeing of refugee communities. This work is driven by ICEPA's partnerships with a range of refugee communities in the western region of Melbourne including those from the Horn of Africa and Bosnia.
Diasporas
In the study of diasporas ICEPA explores the way global communities relate to their homelands in terms of culture, trade, identity and politics. ICEPA's work on diasporas considers the role of transnational identity and networks. This work is heavily influenced through collaborations with diaspora communities in the western region of Melbourne.
