Lionel Newman
Director, Workforce Planning
Lionel joined Victoria University in 2007 as Director Workforce Planning after working at the Australian Crime Commission. At the ACC he held a number of senior positions including those of Director Executive Services and Executive Director Strategy and Governance. In what was a diverse portfolio he had responsibility for strategic business planning, Ministerial services and a number of other compliance and development functions.
Prior to working in Law enforcement Lionel worked in the Victorian state public service and in the commercial world as a business and organisational development consultant. He also brings to VU a number of years of experience gained as a Director with Deakin University's commercial arm, Deakin Australia and 14 years as a Politics, History and English teacher in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
Lionel's Workforce Planning team assesses current workforce capacities and capabilities in support of the development and implementation of workforce plans, change programs and other initiatives aligned to Victoria University's strategic and operational business plans. The WPO also provides strategic Industrial Relations advice and support across the University
Lionel's professional interests are in the areas of strategic business and workforce planning and the development of qualitative and quantitative measures to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of organisations. On a personal note he is a keen body-boarder and aspiring home handyman.
