Laurie McDonald joined Victoria University as a Senior Lawyer in September 2007 and was appointed Acting Manager of the newly created Legal Services Branch of Institutional Services at the commencement of 2008. He is responsible for management of the Legal Services Branch which works closely with the University General Counsel and is responsible for the vast majority of the ongoing legal services work within the University.
Laurie has worked as a lawyer for two of Australia's largest national law firms, Mallesons Stephen Jaques (both in Melbourne and Perth offices) and Freehills (Brisbane office), specialising in energy and resources law, corporations law, trade practices and large contract negotiations. He has also worked for some of the largest corporations represented in Australia, such as BHP, CRA (now RTZ) and in particular ExxonMobil Corporation, where he worked for 11 years. At ExxonMobil he was involved in large scale transactions such as petroleum joint ventures, gas sales agreements and the sale of corporations.
He has also been a tutor at Trinity College, University of Melbourne, a member of the Melbourne University Law Review editorial team and has co-authored a book "Experts' Reports in Corporate Transactions".
