Extend my visa

Student visas are issued for the duration of the enrolled course. However, if you need to renew your visa, it is your responsibility to make sure this is done on time. DIAC is responsible for all student visa grants. Please note that visa extensions are not automatic. For more information, please visit the website of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)

If you need a visa extension you must first apply to VU International for a CoE extension. You should begin the process six weeks before your visa expires. It is very important that you do not allow your visa to expire.

As an international student you must ensure that at all times you are in a position to complete your course within the duration as specified in your CoE. Victoria University International can extend the duration of your study only under the following limited circumstances:

  1. compassionate or compelling circumstances
  2. an intervention strategy has been implemented if you were at risk of not meeting satisfactory course progress, or
  3. you had an approved leave or suspension of study

You must satisfy one of the circumstances listed above for your application to be considered. This is a requirement under the National Code of Practice 2007.
