YOUTH WORK
Certificate IV/Diploma in Youth Work (CHC40602/CHC50502)
The Certificate IV/Diploma of Youth Work develops the knowledge and skills to be able to support and develop the interests, rights and needs of young people including:
- duty of care requirements
- effective communication techniques
- provision of services and programs
- organising and leading group activities
- identifying, preventing and responding to young people at risk of harm or in crisis.
This is a 2 year full time course and part time study is available. Concurrent studies in the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work is also available.
Successful completion of the course provides access to higher education at Victoria University. There is a pathway to the Bachelor of Arts (Youth Studies) this can be completed within one additional year of study after the Cert IV/Diploma at Victoria University is completed.
All applicants will be required to attend an information sessions and interview. Information sessions are held at the end of the year and they provide an opportunity to prospective students to talk one on one to the youth work staff members and help them make informed decisions about prospective careers. The sessions provide a complete overview of the youth work training program at Victoria University, including course content, full and part time programs, selection processes and criteria. Importantly the sessions provide accurate information on pathways to degrees and other post graduate training relevant to working with young people. The sessions also provide prospective students with the opportunity to understand and compare the range of youth work courses operating within Victoria. There will be at least one session held in September prior to the VTAC closing date. More will be held in October, November and December. Entry is based on selection interview, a brief written task along with the Supplementary Application Form and Community Reference Form.
Agencies may require a police clearance prior to undertaking a placement in the sector.
