Plan, Conduct and Review a Marriage Ceremony (CHCMCEL401A)
This comprehensive 12 week training program develops your knowledge and skills in marriage celebrancy including responsibilities, compliance with the relevant legislation, administration, communication and business operations. Become competent in planning, conducting and reviewing ceremonies including:
- Marriage Ceremony
- Name Giving Ceremony
- Love Commitment Ceremony
- Renewal of Vows
- Corporate Events
- Funerals
The course covers: using music, literature and culturally significant elements as well as complying with Australian legislation.
On successful completion of training, you will receive a Certificate of Competency which will enable you to:
- comply with the legal obligations specific to Australian marriage celebrants
- prepare and plan for a marriage ceremony in a professional manner
- conduct and orchestrate a ceremony in a culturally and socially satisfying manner
- evaluate, review and follow through the ceremony in a constructive manner
- apply to the Attorney General's Office for formal registration and recognition as a Civil Marriage Celebrant. This will depend on the applicant meeting all of the criteria for Marriage Celebrants as set down in the Marriage Act 1963.
You will be required to:
- have appropriate language and literacy skills in keeping with the role and responsibilities required for this position in the community
- provide 2 references
- undergo a police check
- have access to a computer and have sufficient skills to complete the computerised requirements of this training
- applicants may be required to attend an information session and pre-selection interview at Victoria University.
Existing civil marriage celebrants requiring registration can be assessed for recognition by completing the assessment tool: Plan, Conduct and Review a Marriage Ceremony.
Please note this is a full fee course and is run from the City Flinders campus.
