Why studying in Australia?

To finish a degree at an University of Applied Sciences in Germany it is necessary to complete a practical semester . A fellow student of mine completed his practical semester including his thesis in Spain. Influenced by this, I wanted to combine studies abroad with a degree in the English language as it is getting more important in a globalized society, I decided to do a degree in English. So I took the challenge and chose Australia above the U.S. because the fee's for the course are less as well as I never traveled to Australia before.

The whole process to find a course in my area of interest, Visa and other administrative barriers took me nearly 1.5 years to complete. Then 2006 I arrived in Australia and was full of expectations. Unfortunately I was disappointed pretty quickly. The course I applied for was not running, so I had some very difficult weeks. There where different options either fly home, change over to a course at Monash or change my course here at Victoria University. I changed my course to Telecommunication engineering here at Victoria University, I was enrolled for Control-Engineering before. I finished the Master of Engineering course in July 2007. The fact that I studied another area of electrical engineering broadened my horizon. Unlike most of the Master students I did a a major project, this project was supervised by Prof. Mike Faulkner. Through this project I learned more about the telecommunication research possibility's at this University. Now I'm enrolled in a Master of Engineering by research with the intentions to change it into a PhD.
