The Food Marketing Research Unit was established in 1991 with a grant from the Department
of Primary Industries and Energy, Government of Australia. From 1994 the Unit developed an
aggressive internationalisation program that led to a substantial increase in its research,
consultancy and training services portfolio. The Unit services a diverse range of clients
conducting six major activities:

- Consultancy
- Seminars and conferences
- Training and Development
- Information dissemination
- Publications
Mission and strategic direction
The Unit's mission is to be an internationally reputed and recognised centre of excellence in
services such as research, education, consultancy, training, and information dissemination to
stakeholders in all segments of the food value chain. The Unit aims to develop and undertake,
or lead manage, high quality collaborative projects with Australian and overseas institutions
and researchers that satisfy the needs of its diverse clientele.
