For some years, CESARE has operated a test facility at Fiskville at the CFA training facility near
Ballarat. In its earliest form it consisted of a multi-level building (3 storeys) in which an experimental research project on fires in bedrooms was undertaken. The building incorporates a stair shaft that can be pressurised.

The above building has been incorporated into a very large enclosure. This enclosure has a plan area of 70m x 40m and a height at the eaves of 20m. The building has openable roof vents along the ridge and lower level vents at various wall locations. The enclosure will eventually house a large calorimeter to enable measurement of HRR for large tests.
