The School of Social Sciences and Psychology brings together academic staff from a variety of discipline bases, and teaching and research expertise. It aims to provide an education and research training that reflects the social and people realities of the western region of Melbourne, of Victoria, and to place these into a national and global perspective.

In addition to a strong discipline-based education, our students are equipped with a range of skills in critical thinking and analysis, research reporting and presentation skills, cultural and social awareness and understanding. These provide our graduates with a firm foundation from which to further pursue their individual professional development.

The School aims to offer the highest quality instruction across all levels of education, from undergraduate to postgraduate study, and Learning in the Workplace and Community.  The School seeks to create a welcoming, supportive and stimulating learning and social environment for all students. Mentoring programs for commencing students, and strategies or assisting students with study or writing problems are key priorities.

The School conducts teaching and research across a range of traditional social sciences discipline areas, as well as professional training in Psychology and Social Work.

Staff are active researchers. They engage in many inter-disciplinary topics of relevance to the western region of Melbourne, as well as contributing to their disciplines at national and international levels.

Regular research symposia are held, and all are invited to attend.
