Wellness Promotion Unit

Promoting Personal, Group, and Community Wellness Through Research, Education and Consultation.

Our Mission

Wellness is acheived by the simultaneous and balanced satisfaction of personal, interpersonal and collective needs.

Our Aim

The aim of the Wellness Promotion Unit is to promote personal, group, and community wellbeing through applied research. We promote wellbeing in Victoria in general, with a special interest in the promotion of wellbeing in the Western region of Greater Melbourne and rural regions of Victoria. This is in line with the mission of Victoria University; to offer education, research, and services to the communities of these areas.

Philosophy:

We embrace a health promotion philosophy that seeks to improve the wellness of all community members. We define wellbeing as "a positive state of affairs brought about by the simultaneous satisfaction of personal, relational, and collective needs of individuals and communities". There can only be wellbeing in the combined presence of personal, relational and collective wellness." Personal needs include health, the ability to make independent decisions, and a sense of control. Interpersonal needs include positive family relations, affection, empathy and social support. Collective needs include access to health care facilities, economic sufficiency, housing and adequate transportation.
