Each year we rely on enthusiastic, organised and dedicated volunteers to get involved in our many sports programs. Whether you'd like to volunteer as a Sports Team Manager, Umpire/Referee, Coach, Therapist or Administrator, we'd love you to have you on board!
TEAM MANAGERS
Team Managers play a crucial role in the success of the VU Representative Sport Program and are responsible for the coordination of both team and individual sports. TMs host trials, assist Coaches to select squads, coordinate team administration requirements as well as create a vital communication link between VU Sport staff and participants. TMs can be athletes, or choose not to participate but coordinate the team (however in most cases TMs need to be a VU student). This role requires excellent communication, time management, interpersonal and organisational skills. TMs are given a high level or responsibility and play a significan trole in the success of the representative sport program. The role requires that TMs travel with their teams to events, conduct and attend all training sessions booked for the team (with the guidance of a Coach where relevant). TMs are also responsible for actively promoting to and recruiting new players for their teams, as supported by the staff of VU Sport & Fitness staff in promoting to students. TMs must be involved in selecting a Coach for their team where necessary.
COACHES
The sports coach must have a broad knowledge of their chosen sport, have previous experience in coaching the sport and be available to attend and conduct all training sessions. Coaches will work directly with TMs to coordinate their teams both prior to and during events.
