Danny Morseu was inducted into the VU Sport Hall of Fame presented by the Chancellor Hon Justice Frank Vincent at the 2007 VU Sport Awards Night held at Level 12, 300 Flinders St, 22 November
With a decorated national and international Basketball career Danny Morseu is a well deserved candidate for induction into the University's Sporting Hall of Fame.
The name Danny Morseu is synonymous with the early years of the national Basketball league and his career ran parallel with the amazing growth that the sport experienced during the 1980's and early 90's.
Originally from Thursday Island, Danny arrived in Melbourne via Cairns in 1978 to play for the St Kilda Basketball club in the NBL. I can remember watching Danny pounding the boards in the formative years of the national basketball league making his presence felt as one of a new generation of basketballers.
Danny's achievements in Basketball and life are impressive. In his NBL career Danny achieved 3 premierships rings - two with St Kilda in 1979 and 1980 and then with Brisbane in 1987. Danny also made the NBL All Star Team in 1980 and 1981.
As equally impressive is Danny's international career spanned 12 years and included 2 Olympic Games and 2 World Championships. In recognition of his achievements Danny was inducted into the NBL Hall of Fame in 2002 and also received the Australian Sports Medal
Danny completed his Bachelor of Arts - Recreation in 1984 and in fact Danny is one of numerous NBL players to attend the old FIT in the early to mid eighties eights. Danny also receive his full blue retrospectively for his selection in the Australian team to the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980.
Since graduation Danny has worked for a range of state and federal government departments in Victoria and Queensland and now works and lives in Canberra.
In recognition of both his sporting and professional achievements Danny was also named as one of the University's 90 Legends during the celebration of the Universities 90th year in 2006.
Danny now joins impressive company in the VU Sport Hall of Fame in Andrew Gaze; Basketball (2002), Mike McKay; Rowing (2003), Rebecca Sullivan,; Judo (2004), Larry Sengstock; Basketball (2005) and Campbell Rose; Sailing 2006.
