Thousands expected for biggest career expo in west

19 May 2008

Victoria University is again proud to be part of WRICA - the west's own careers and employment exhibition - which each year attracts thousands of secondary school students and close to 100 exhibitors.

Now in its 11th year, the annual Wyndam/Hobsons Bay Region Incorporated Careers Association (WRICA) exhibition is the only employment and careers expo in Melbourne's west, and the third largest in Victoria.

The 2008 expo will be launched on Thursday May 29 at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing.

Media are welcome to attend.

WRICA President Peter Krausz said 7000 students in Years 10, 11 and 12 from all 17 private and state secondary schools in Hobsons Bay and Wyndham will attend the two-day event.

Victoria University is among the expo's 100 exhibitors, offering students options for tertiary study, apprenticeships or traineeships. Students can also obtain careers advice and pathway planning, and learn about opportunities for student exchanges.

In addition, major employers such as Victoria Police, Ford, City West Water, Werribee Mercy Hospital and the Defence Forces will be represented.

Students are the main participants, but the expo is also open to parents or members of the public seeking information about a possible career change or planning a return to study.
